Let’s Talk Taboo!

What Can Urine Do For You?

You’ve probably heard these old wives tales.

  • “If you pee on your feet in a shower then you won’t get athletes foot”

  • “If you get stung by a jellyfish in the ocean, peeing on the sting lessens pain”

Did you know we have all bathed in our own urine? Babies start producing urine at about 13 weeks into a pregnancy, when the kidneys start functioning. This means they spend about 27 weeks in a constant urine bath. Now think about a newborn babies skin. Isn’t it the softest thing you’ve ever felt?

If you are slightly disgusted by this email so far, you are not alone. But maybe it’s time to rethink our preconceptions, and revisit our knowledge of what urine actually is.

Urine is essentially excess blood plasma.   Unlike the gas tank of a car, our body doesn’t have a holding tank where we can store things we don’t need right now. So our kidneys filter the blood to keep all of our nutrient levels within the proper ranges for optimal health. Excess amounts of anything the blood doesn’t need, get filtered out through the kidneys into our urine. This is totally different from the toxins and waste products excreted through our feces.

Urine is antiseptic, antimicrobial, and antibacterial. Urine is 95% water, 2.5% Urea, and 2.5% other substances, which include stem cells, electrolytes, creatinine, uric acid, proteins, hormones, and glucose.

External Uses for Urine

  • Poultice for wounds and burns and stings

  • Soak for dry & cracked skin

  • Drops in the eyes for cataracts and other eye issues

  • Drops in the ears for ear infections

  • Urea is added to high end skin cream brands for healthy skin

Not sure how to start?  Massage a few drops into your scalp, add some to your bath, or try a few drops in your eyes.

Bottom Line?  Urine and Feces are NOT the same thing at all. Urine can be used to care for wounds, soften skin, and improve chronic health conditions.
