Amazon Supplements:

Convenient or Counterfeit?

Cheap knockoffs on Amazon seem pretty common these days. But let’s face the facts. Buying a fake purse is a lot different than buying something you are going to ingest.

How can you spot a counterfeit?

If you have been taking the supplement for a while, then changes in size, color, shape, or smell of the supplement should be a red flag. When a company changes the product, it usually announces it. Some things are obvious…vitamin E should be a golden liquid capsule, not a powder, for example. Does the ingredient label match what is inside?

You can also look for typos, poor printing, or label changes to the bottle itself.

Finally, make purchases on Amazon or other online vendors directly from the company store, rather than XYZ or other odd names.

Bottom Line?  Support local small businesses when possible and buy directly from them either in person or on their website. When buying on Amazon, look to buy directly from the company page. Don’t just get the cheapest option!

Want to learn more? Jared St. Clair talks about how many supplements on Amazon are counterfeit and contain only rice powder. This is a growing problem. (The podcast is titled Boron but the beginning section is about Amazon).
