How were the reference ranges established?

Direct answer

Ranges were built from populations recognised as healthy, using age, sex, weight, height and blood type. Thousands of tests in the early 2000s across the northern and southern hemispheres produced distribution curves from which standard intervals were calculated. Ranges continue to be monitored and adjusted as global data accumulates. Reference range methodology →
