Melanotan 2: How It's Dosed and How It Differs from Melanotan 1

Melanotan 2 produces faster, darker tanning than Melanotan 1, and may also stimulate erections. Long-term dosing is 6 ticks, 0.25 mg, once or twice weekly in the evening. A jump start protocol runs 12 ticks, 0.5 mg, twice daily for seven days. For a holiday, start ten days ahead.

How does it compare to Melanotan 1?

Other effectsVitiligo, increased awarenessMay stimulate erections
SelectivityMore selectiveLess selective, hence the broader effects

Melanotan 2 is less receptor-selective than Melanotan 1, which is why it produces effects beyond pigmentation. PT-141 was developed from Melanotan 2 specifically to isolate the sexual function effect.

Side effects

Generally minor: skin darkening, moles, freckles, nausea, vomiting, flushing, yawning. Effects fade after stopping use. Possible diarrhoea at higher doses.

Before you start: the mole question

Melanotan compounds darken existing moles and can cause new ones. Darkening and changing moles are also how melanoma presents, so a compound that changes every mole on your body makes the one that matters harder to spot.

  • Get a skin check before starting, for a baseline
  • Photograph existing moles
  • Do not use with a personal or family history of melanoma without a dermatologist involved
  • Any mole that changes shape, bleeds, or looks unlike the others needs assessment

Melanotan 2 in particular has case reports in the dermatology literature of melanoma diagnosed in users. That does not establish cause, and it is a reason for monitoring rather than avoidance.

Do your own research.
