Gut Health

Health begins in the gut. If your digestion is compromised, you can't absorb nutrients, you may have autoimmune issues, IBS, or leaky gut. If you are constipated, you open the door for pathogens and parasites to stick around.

This is a great little documentary about the importance of vitamins.   https://thatvitaminmovie.com/movie/freescreening

⭐ BPC-157 Oral Peptide

VIGEO's flagship gut support. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as signaling molecules in the body, helping regulate repair, inflammation, and cellular communication. BPC-157 is a naturally occurring peptide fragment studied for its role in supporting tissue repair, gut integrity, and resilience to inflammatory stress.

Typical use: 1 capsule daily for 1–2 weeks, then several times per week as needed. More frequent use may be appropriate in more severe cases.

Why it’s used: BPC-157 is one of the primary tools I use to support gut lining repair and overall digestive resilience, particularly in cases of chronic irritation, food reactions, IBS, or SIBO patterns.

Some people also choose to use BPC-157 before or after alcohol intake to support gut integrity and recovery, as alcohol can be irritating to the digestive lining and inflammatory to the system.

Colostrum

Colostrum is the first milk produced after birth and is rich in immunoglobulins, growth factors, and bioactive compounds that help establish a healthy gut lining and immune response. It supports the development and protection of the intestinal barrier and beneficial gut bacteria.

Typical use: 2–6 capsules daily, or as needed.

Why it’s used: Colostrum helps coat and support the digestive lining, making it useful for gut irritation, food sensitivity, immune stress, or digestive instability. It is often used during periods of increased physical stress or endurance activity.

Dawn uses bovine or goat colostrum before and during long races to help maintain digestive comfort under stress.

Digestive Enzymes

Digestive enzymes help break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates so food doesn’t sit in the stomach fermenting and causing bloating, discomfort, or reflux-like symptoms. Inadequate enzyme activity is a common contributor to post-meal heaviness and digestive distress.

Typical use: Taken before meals to support digestion, especially larger or harder-to-digest meals. Some people also use enzymes away from meals for broader tissue-supportive effects.

Why they’re used: Digestive enzymes can help reduce bloating, gas, and discomfort after eating by improving food breakdown and nutrient absorption. High-potency formulas are often preferred when symptoms persist despite standard enzyme products.

If gluten is a particular issue, targeted gluten-digesting enzymes may be used situationally.

Ox Bile

Typical use: 1–2 capsules before meals containing fat.

Why it’s used: After gallbladder removal, bile is no longer released in a concentrated bolus in response to fat intake. Ox bile helps replicate this bile flow, supporting fat digestion, nutrient absorption, and reducing bloating or digestive discomfort after meals.

Constipation

The first rule of digestion is not getting constipated. Chronic constipation often reflects underlying issues such as low stomach acid, inadequate bile flow, mineral imbalance, or slowed gut motility. Long-term constipation may be influenced by low iodine or copper, sluggish liver and gallbladder function, low bile production, dehydration, inadequate dietary fat, or abrupt dietary changes. Addressing hydration, digestion, and bile flow is foundational.

When additional support is needed, the following tools may be used.

Dr. Schulze’s Intestinal Formula #1

Typical use: 1 capsule daily with a meal.

Why it’s used: Supports bowel regularity using herbal compounds rather than harsh stimulant laxatives. Often helpful for ongoing constipation or medication-related slowing (including GLP-1 peptides).

Vitamin C (Bowel Tolerance)

Typical use: Taken in divided doses throughout the day and gradually increased until stools soften, then reduced slightly to maintain regularity.

Why it’s used: Vitamin C can support bowel regularity by increasing intestinal water content and motility. Higher bowel tolerance often reflects increased oxidative stress, inflammation, or toxic burden. This approach is often used short-term to restore regular bowel movements rather than as a permanent high-dose strategy.

Purchase: 500 mg or 1000mg ascorbic acid, capsules or powder , found online and in most big box stores.  https://www.amazon.com/BULKSUPPLEMENTS-COM-Ascorbic-Acid-Capsules-Supplement/dp/B0CFWTRQSL

Magnesium Chloride (Loose-Stool Form)

Typical use: Taken in the evening or at bedtime as needed.

Why it’s used: Certain forms of magnesium (including magnesium chloride) can support bowel regularity by drawing water into the stool and relaxing smooth muscle.

Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate)

Typical use: ½ teaspoon in water once or twice daily. Start low and increase gradually.

Why it’s used: Supports alkalinity and digestive pH, which may indirectly improve digestion, bile flow, and bowel regularity. Some people also notice benefits for pain, polarity, or athletic performance.

Diarrhea

Loose stools can result from irritation, food sensitivity, stress, bile imbalance, or disruption of the gut lining. The goal is not simply to suppress symptoms, but to restore balance and improve digestion.

🔹 If Gut Lining Irritation Is Suspected

BPC-157 (Oral)
Supports repair of the gut lining and overall digestive resilience.

Colostrum
Supports gut barrier integrity and immune balance during digestive irritation.  See link in Colostrum section, above.

🔹 If Bile Flow or Fat Digestion Is the Issue (Common after gallbladder removal)

Ox Bile
Supports fat digestion when bile release is insufficient, which can otherwise trigger loose stools after meals. See link in Ox Bile section, above.

🔹 If Stress or Nervous System Overdrive Is the Driver

Stress can directly increase gut motility. Nervous system support may be as important as digestive support.
Helpful tools may include prayer, meditation, breath work, conversation with a trusted friend, or creating a calmer environment.

🔹 If Irritation or Toxin Load Is Contributing

Diatomaceous Earth - May help bind irritants and support regulation of bowel movements.

Zeolite (ZeoCharge) - May support binding of unwanted substances in the digestive tract.

🔹 If Alternating Between Diarrhea and Constipation

When bowel movements alternate unpredictably, consider:

  • Bile flow imbalance

  • Liver Stones

  • Liver/gallbladder congestion

  • Digestive enzyme insufficiency
