Square 1 System
a.k.a The Movement Code

Strength, Movement and Flexibility; Does your body feel safe when you move?

When you stub your toe, your body instinctively starts limping to protect your injured appendage.  Your body then finds the most efficient pattern of movement with the limited resources that are still available.  But as that toe heals, often there is never a clear signal that you can stop limping.  Over the course of our lives, we have hundreds to thousands of these proverbial or literal "stubbed" toes.

Think of this another way.   "Involuntary" actions are things your body does without conscious thought, such as keeping our heart beating, our lungs breathing, digesting food, etc.  If you want to show off and flex your bicep, we call this a "voluntary" muscle action. So is that voluntary movement really totally under our control?   Flexing your bicep requires 8 different different muscles to fire at the same time.   We assume they are all firing, but we don't know for sure.   All we really have control over is the flexion of our elbow joint, and the recruitment of each muscles is voluntary.

How does this manifest itself?   If you have flexed your bicep at some point and injured it, such as by lifting too much weight on a bicep curl, then your body may still think a bicep curl is unsafe, and downregulate the muscle recruitment during that movement.   What's the end result?   You will have less overall strength on your bicep curl, you might be stronger on one arm than the other, or your nervous system compensation may leave you open to further injury.   This also may affect proprioception, which is the ability to sense where our body is in space.  Ultimately, compensations affect movement quality.

Stress on the body leads to motor control compromise, which is the root cause of compensation.

So for every proverbial "stubbed" toe in your body over the course of your life, you may be compensating in hundreds or thousands of different ways which make you weaker, less efficient, and more injury prone.

What can Square 1 System do for you?

Reassuring your nervous system that a movement, thought, or product is "safe" can quickly get your body performing, reacting, and adjusting better to your surroundings.    What does this look like in real life?   If you are a runner, then we look for compensations in your running stride.  If you are just happy to be able to stand up off the floor if you fall down, then we could do sitting/standing movements.  If you are worried about your supplements aren't reacting well in your body, then we can have you hold those supplements while testing, and  then reassure your body that they are safe to take.   If you have a mental block around a certain activity or idea, then we can have you hold that idea in your mind, while testing to see if your nervous system has you mentally "limping".

The good news is that each release is painless, quick, and easy.   Even better news?   That specific compensation doesn't come back...it's like your debt is forgiven.  This doesn't mean you won't create future compensations but it's nice to start with a clean slate.

This method isn't like seeing a physical therapist.   We won't send you home with exercises, or want you back 3x a week for life.  2 or 3 sessions can be a huge benefit with long lasting effects, and give you the skills to take with you to mitigate future issues.
